Stephen Giles
Stephen grew up in Kent and studied viola with Marguerite
Wilkinson at the junior department of the Royal College of Music. Roger Bigley was his teacher whilst he
studied for a B.Mus. at Manchester University, then he furthered his studies on
viola with Roger Best whilst a student at the National Centre for Orchestral
Studies in London. Since then Stephen
has worked as a viola player in many fields: chamber music, ballet, opera,
film, TV and in chamber and symphony orchestras such as City of London Sinfonia
and London Concert Orchestra. Since 2000
he has taught violin and viola for East Sussex Music Service as a member of its
string team. He also takes responsibility for tutoring violas in East Sussex
String Chamber Orchestra and South Downs Youth Orchestra which he sometimes
conducts. Occasionally, Stephen also
finds time to nurture his allotment.
